Otrokovice JUMP 2025 - Athletic meeting World Indoor Tour

Athletics, the queen of sports, has a long tradition in Otrokovice. However, this year it is moving to a world level. Within one competition, spectators will have a unique opportunity to see all jumping disciplines - long jump, high jump, triple jump and pole vault. Thanks to a quarter of a century of honest work, the Otrokovice indoor meeting was included among the 54 unique meetings of the World Indoor Tour world series and thanks to this, it is changing its name to Otrokovice JUMP 2025.

This year, the traditional meeting was divided into three separate competitions - Otrokovice JUMP 2025 / World Athletics Indoor Tour Challenger, Otrokovice Hall - national program, which also includes the Moravian Pole - part of the Czech-Moravian Tour and the Continental Otrokovice indoor youth meeting.

On Wednesday, January 22, the National Program for Young Hopes will start in the morning in the Otrokovice Municipal Sports Hall. The program includes high and long jump competitions for categories under 23, and especially the BETA1292 Moravian Pole, an attractive competition within the Czech-Moravian Tour. After the competition, the best competitors will be announced and the winner will be decided by the sum of centimeters jumped at the Prague meeting Česká týčka 2025 and here in Otrokovice.

In the afternoon, spectators will see the main meeting Otrokovice JUMP 2025 in jumping disciplines, namely long jump, high jump, triple jump and pole vault. Within the World Indoor Tour (WIT), athletes fight for points in the world ranking. This is then the criterion for nomination for the World, European and Olympic Championships. "Our meeting is the only one in the world that offers all jumping disciplines within the WIT. It is also a reference to Petr Gybas, the legendary athlete from Otrokovice. The winner of the Petr Gybas Memorial will be the best performance according to the Hungarian tables," emphasized the competition director Aleš Prudký. As the start approaches, preparations for the race are intensifying. "The organization is demanding. Dozens of athletes from all over the world are applying to start, but the number of starters is limited in individual disciplines. We have reserved the right to include athletes from Otrokovice in the starting list. We will know the selection of competitors and the final version of the starting list in about a week. Competitors from TJ Jiskra Otrokovice will be at the start, as well as youth representatives Victoria Kuchmister and Lukáš Budík. We already know today that it will be a unique spectacle that people should not miss," Aleš Prudký invited the general public to visit the races.

"The main face of the meeting will be a great long-distance talent, a native of Uherský Brod, eighteen-year-old Petr Meindlschmid, a member of the Athletics Academy of the Zlín Region, the seventh man from last year's European Men's Championship and a participant in the Olympic Games in Paris. We are thinking about ensuring Petr quality competition. And that is our goal in other disciplines as well, so currently athletes from 15 countries should be competing in the main meeting," outlined the chairman of the organizing committee, Pavel Beznoska.

On Thursday, the Continental Otrokovice Indoor Youth Meeting will begin, a race that allows children from schools and clubs to compete in a large meeting environment. Young athletes will be at the start not only from our city and region, but also from the entire republic and Slovakia, and they will compete not only in jumps like their role models, but also in sprints and hurdles. The meeting will then be closed by athletics competitions in sprints, standing jumps, full ball throws and racket throws.

It is interesting that future stars of world athletics have also participated in the meeting in the youth category in the past, and in the adult section they had the opportunity to compete with big names. Names such as Bába, Ogrodníková, Novotný, Rosolová, Švábíková, and foreign competitors Dadič, Ivanov, Nedaskau, Rivera, Szabová, medalists from top competitions, were presented in our hall.

Among the competitors and the greatest aces were, in any case, Olympic champion Roman Šebrle, three-time world champion Tomáš Dvořák and world champion James Harris. Previous years have brought athletes from five continents and more than 33 countries to Otrokovice, and this year the meeting has the ambition to significantly increase this number.

— Athletic meeting with a 25-year tradition —

The history of the meeting began in 1998, when members of the TJ Jiskra athletics club organized the first annual Otrokovice Laťka. They continued the historical tradition of the Journalist Laťka, which was held in the 1980s. The race was held in the new Municipal Sports Hall, which had been under construction since the 1980s and was prompted by the floods in 1997. The hall, originally intended as a tennis hall, was equipped with an artificial surface based on tartan and its purpose was to provide sports activities for all branches of Otrokovice sports. In the first year, competitions in the high jump and 40-meter sprint were held (the total length of the hall was 56 m).

From the beginning, the organizers emphasized youth, so the morning program belonged to the school championships for the Mayor's Cup and the afternoon to the junior and adult categories. Over time, other disciplines were added to the meeting, such as the 40-meter hurdle sprint, in 2002 after the construction of the jumping ground, the long jump and triple jump, in 2004 the shot put and in 2006 the pole vault. In 2009, multi-athletes were also offered participation, when their performances in the 40-meter hurdles, shot put, long jump and high jump are scored in the overall ranking.

Athletics competitions were first included in the meeting program in 2010. Right at the premiere, young children (7-11 years old) appeared in the main program of the second day of the meeting and this turned out to be the right move. Not only parents and other relatives, but also all the spectators in the audience enthusiastically cheered for the children and at times even the competitors themselves got carried away. For some children, the stormy atmosphere was very surprising, but they all coped with it with honor and great fighting spirit. It was certainly a great experience when the Olympic champion, world champion and world record holder in decathlon Roman Šebrle personally demonstrated the racket throw and obstacle course to the children. The children were also excited about the announcement of the winners in front of a packed hall and to great applause.

To participate in the Mini-Meeting of the Prep, the prep competitors from the entire Zlín region must qualify in the qualifying competitions, which take place from October to January. In these qualifying competitions, they try to nominate more than 200 children, and the right to start in this grand final is secured by the top 10 in each category and discipline. So just appearing at the start on the same field as Czech and foreign representatives is a real success for these little adepts of the queen of sports.

Since the first year of the international indoor meeting, the Otrokovice School Championships have become an integral part of it. The younger and older students started, just like the adults, with a 40m sprint and a high jump. In 2002, the long jump was added, and since 2005, the older students have been regularly running over obstacles. A shot put event has also been added several times. Practically since the beginning of the meeting, in addition to individual trophies, prizes have been awarded for team competitions, with the high jump competition being held as the Mayor's Cup of Otrokovice, the sprint as the Director's Cup of TJ Jiskra Otrokovice, and the long jump as the Chairman's Cup of the Athletics Club of TJ Jiskra Otrokovice.

Since 2012, the competition format has changed to team competitions, where a younger student, a younger student, an older student, and an older student compete for the organization in a 4-member team.

The prizes are traditionally presented by the patrons of the meeting from among the former and current representatives of the Czech Republic, participants in the international indoor athletics meeting. (in the past, for example, Tomáš Dvořák, Šárka Kašpárková, Denisa Rosolová, Stanislav Sajdok. Ladislav Kříž, Remigius Machura, etc.)
